I was tagged by [livejournal.com profile] shiftylinguini and am happy to oblige in this meme. ;p

Here are five things that make me happy:

  1. Summer sun: It's currently summer here and I love all the sun we get. Yes, it gets pretty fast too hot in our flat, but all in all summer is just the best season. Blue sky, sun, being outside, varnished toe nails (I'm too lazy to do that when nobody is going to see it), ice cream, open air swimming pools, riding the bike all the time - yes, I definitely love summer.

  2. Reading: This month is a reading blast. I've taken a break from writing and am just enjoying all the things that have been popping up (on my dashboard, my mobile, via AO3notifications and on tumblr). I read a lot of [livejournal.com profile] holmestice, all the [livejournal.com profile] hd_smoochfest fics so far and a lot of [livejournal.com profile] hprarefest too. And I even managed to read a book in-between all the fics. Happy times, indeed!

  3. Music: In a way music is much more important than reading to me. I'd go barmy without it. Music helps me to concentrate, to do all the deeds I hate (vacuum cleaning or cleaning the bathrooms without music is unbearable) and is always able to lighten my mood.

  4. My family: I love them with all my heart, even though they can get terribly on my nerves. :D

  5. Fandom/Talking to people around the world: It's not that I don't love my rl friends, on the contrary I love them to pieces. Yet, I love that blogging, fanfictions and fandom coaxed me into talking to people from all over the world. It's so much fun to learn about all your lives, your surroundings, to get insight into your culture. It's awesome to make friends; no matter where they are, what they look like, whom they love and what they do outside of fandom.

My turn to tag some friends (who like to do memes or talk about their lives and haven't been tagged so far [?], so only six instead of ten):
[livejournal.com profile] my_thestral, [livejournal.com profile] candamira, [livejournal.com profile] anemonen, [livejournal.com profile] isinuyasha, [livejournal.com profile] lokifan and [livejournal.com profile] huldrejenta

It took me days to do this meme on tumblr, but I've finally managed.
And as I'm very lazy today, I just take the link and post it here- http://niakantorka.tumblr.com/post/119298906163/tagged-by-gracerene09-1-why-this-url-part-of-it
If you are on my f-list here, but we haven't found us on tumblr, feel free to harass me into following you. :D

Day 10 - One person you can trust

I'm a very open and therefore trusting person. That's not a bad thing and only rarely people have betrayed my trust. But as I just can name one person that is predictably Mr Kantorka.

Some hypothetical things I wish I could do:
1. To switch my gender whenever I like. (I would even volunteer to be a Chieri or some other hermaphrodite species.)
2. To know (speak and write) all the languages of the world. I'm sure eidetic memory and a perfect pitch would be helpful on the way.

Day 5 - Six songs that you’re addicted to

Ok, I'm picking some I'm addicted to now. So, when the next meme is going on I'll pick other songs. I would probably pick others tomorrow too. My love for music is like the sea, endless but never the same.

1. Golden Years by David Bowie. On this list due to one of the most wonderful Sherlock fics I've ever read.
2. Summer Nights by Scheinizzl & Chroph (feat. David Lageder). That's my current favourite song from Robin Schulz' album Extended Prayer and it's gorgeous. Only one out of 21 songs I can't stand.
3. I Bet My Life by Imagine Dragons. Do take a look at the vid. Dane Dehaan in full glory. It was recced by [livejournal.com profile] susannah_wilde some time ago.
4. Fireproof by The National. That voice. *melts into a puddle*
5. Give Me Sunshine by Santa Maradona F. C. (feat. Graham Candy). Already recced it in fall- still makes me smile.
6. Things We Lost In The Fire by Bastille. Though it's from 2013 I love this song.

Day 4 - Seven fears/phobias

Uh, that's a tough one. And this whole post might be really depressing. So, if you're not in the mood for that better skip it. I don't blame you!

1. If our little one would die before me. This fear must be born with your child/children the moment you become a parent. I'm sure parents can relate to that.

2. To die of Alzheimer or some other dementia. Just think about it, one will slowly forget the people one love and everyone around, one will forget about things and what they are used for, one will get angry and sad. All of it will break your family's/lover's heart. After years your body can't do the basics anymore. You can't clean yourself, eat and drink. A way too long nightmare.

3. To be not able to read anymore. I'm sure this would destroy my sanity for good. I could try to cope with reading Braille, but I'm not sure I'd suceed.

4. To lose electricity. That's the thing that keeps our modern world running. Not money, not governments, not weapons- electricity it is. 7 billions of people would be thrown into stone age from one minute to the other and it would be ammageddon for most of those 7 billions. Frightening, isn't it?

5. That someone someday comes to me and says, you're just a fraud. It's an irrational angst and I know it, but it won't go away.

6. I hate any kind of food leftovers touching my hands/arms. Doesn't matter if it's on the worktop, in the dish water or the little one grabbing me with dirty and sticky fingers. It gives me the hibbie jibbies. But hey, I don't mind putting my gloved arm into a cow arse. ;p

7. Once I had a boyfriend who bred and hatched reptiles mostly lizards and geckos and it was creepy like hell when their food aka little grasshoppers and all sorts of crickets jumped against me. Seems like I'm very sensitive about things brushing my skin.

1. Drive car in this city because the traffic light circuit is horribly messed up and a lot of people just can't drive for the life of it.
2. The little one outstubborn any mule.

8. That I can't go dancing with a friend because they
a) have little children and no time
b) are pregnant and don't want to
c) don't like my style of music (I love rock, independent and whatnot, but need good old house music for dancing)
c) don't like dancing at all

Day 1 - Ten random facts about yourself
1.The first book I've read myself was The Hobbit. Fantasy books have always been a huge part of my reading life.
2. Order of the Phoenix was the first English book I'd read since school and there are still my scribbled vocabulary notes in it.
3. Last year I read more than 200 books or longer fics thereof only two books in German.
4. I can read and listen to music while walking, but I can't listen to audiobooks/podfics and do something else (weird brain is weird).
5. I spent my honeymoon in New Zealand and would drop everything to visit this fabulous country again.
6. I'm a vet and a trained editor. I'm only working as the latter.
7. The last vet particing I did? I neutered our tomcat in 2004- it's fairly easy if you have the proper narcotics, a scalpel, a clamp, some catgut, and a healthy cat.
8. I have a German blog (with two fellow bloggers), an English blog, LJ, tumblr, twitter- but only a fake facebook account for blog purpose- worst social media page ever. I use a book character name as alias. LMFAO when they corrected my age, got it wrong, and still have no clue where I live or who I am.
9. I'm turning 40 this year.
10 Actually I shouldn't do this list but read a fic alpha...

Well, [livejournal.com profile] candamira thought, I should share my favourite pumkin recipe with you.
It's a soup as well and not very haute cuisine but I love it nonetheless:

Pumpkin soup with creme cheese
You need:
- 1 Hokaido pumpkin
- 1 big apple (or 2 smaller ones)
- 1 big onion (or 2 smaller ones)
- powdered vegetable stock (I'm sure it will be better with fresh broth)
- spices (red pepper, black pepper, cardamon, ginger, curry, oregano, salt, and whatever you love and want to add)
- 250 gr/quater of a pound of creme cheese

What to do:
Dice onions, the peeled apples and the pitted pumpkin.
Oil the pot and rost the onions AND the apples with some heat.
Add the pumpkin as soon as the onions are glazed.
Add water until the pumkin is covered (not more) and then add powdered vegetable stock until the water tastes like a good broth.
Add as much spices as you like or can stand (I have to restrict myself because our little one doesn't like it too hot). Don't forget a bit salt (yes, stock is salty too but it's not the same:).
Let the soup cook for at least 30 minutes. It's not important if the soup simmers or cooks.
Blend with a hand-held blender (I never tried it with a mixer but think that would work too)
Now lessen the heat.
Add the creme cheese.
Taste and see if you want to spice it again (I normally do because the creme cheese lessens the taste).

That's it. Gute Appetit!

I was tagged by [livejournal.com profile] anemonen and [livejournal.com profile] isinuyasha - as if I ever could resist some book talk.

Rules: In a text post, list ten books that have stayed with you in some way. Don’t take but a few minutes, and don’t think too hard — they don’t have to be the “right” or “great” works, just the ones that have touched you. Tag ten friends, including me, so I’ll see your list. Make sure you let your friends know you’ve tagged them!

1. The Hobbit by John R. R. Tolkien
The first book I read on my own. I was six years old and blame Tolkien for my fantasy obsession. I didn't get the tragic or the depth of the book, but remember that I LMAO about the one dwarf after the other knocking on Bilbo's door. Well, I was only a kid but I wanted to go back to Middle Earth the moment I closed the book for the first time. You can't fathom my delight when my mum finally told me about it's sequel (because I was pestering her like nothing else)- I was eight years old at that time...

2. The Lord of the Rings by John R. R. Tolkien
Yay, what can I say. I read this book more than thirty years ago for the first time. Wasn't the last time either. There was I time I read it yearly during Winter. And no, I was never tempted to learn Sindarin, Eldarin or Entish but I totally adore the crafting of this world with thousands years of history, politics, maps, songs and everything. At eight years I got lots of nightmares about Nazgûl, Kankra, and, yes of course, Sméagol (god, how I hated him as a child). The old German paperbacks were lime green and the colour alone was able to rise my heartbeat at that time. Now I'm a lot calmer about LotR but it never fails to make me cry at the end. Only one other book can make me cry like a that- like a fucking cry-baby always at the same time/page.

3. All the Weyrs of Pern by Anne McCaffrey
That's the second book that always makes me cry. About the death of a machine, a harpner and a fire-lizard in combination with the most wonderful quote of all: "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven". I love the whole series, especially the books about Jaxom and Ruth. Today I might wish for an unrealisable dose of Polyjuice (to do some naughty things) but during my teenage years I just wished for a fire-lizard or a dragon who I could talk to mentally. I would have loved to be near one of Ramoth's eggs. One can dream, right?

4. Song of the Lioness by Tamora Pierce
It's the first book of Alanna's adventures. And this little knightess made me realise an important message: Girls (women) can do everything they want, even the things only men seem to do. I can't tell you how often I read these books. And whenever I was down and thought about not being able to do something I just thought about these books. Isn't that great?
Yes, they are books for children but they can teach you one or two things. Next to aforementioned message for girls, these books show that one is able to love more than one person at a time, they show the true value of friendship and the characters in these books have always felt real to me. And I love Faithful and Alanna bantering all the time.

5. Peter and Anneli's Journey to the Moon by Gerdt von Bassewitz
Probably you don't now this one because it's a German book. Here's what the English wiki says about it:
'Peter and Anneli's Journey to the Moon' is a German children's tale of imaginative fantasy and adventure tells the story of how Little Peter and Anneli help Mr. Zoomzeman, a June Bug, bring his leg back from the Moon. Long ago, a thief, stealing wood in the forest, has accidentally cut off Mr. Zoomzeman’s great-great grandfather’s leg and was banished to the Moon. Unfortunately, he took the leg with him and, since then, the family of the Zoomzeman in search of goodness finds Peter and Anneli.
The three then set off together on an astonishing journey, filled with marvelous encounters, fantastic beings, and exciting events. Finally, reaching the Moon, they must challenge the ferocious Moon Man and, with the help of the Nature Forces, they restore the missing leg to Mr. Zoomzeman.

I can't wait to read this story with my little one, like my mum read it to me. It's wonderful and the drawings in it are amazing. My copy looks as old as the one on wikipedia. :)

6. Havenstar by Glenda Larke (former Noramly)
I fell in love with Havenstars heroine Keris right from the start. She is smart but no beauty. She is talented as a card painter but that is no career choice for women in her world. She falls in love with a doomed man and loves him even more for the choices he has to make. She is brave, passionate and a really good friend. She is gorgeous.
And the world she lives in. Malinawar. It's unbelievable with it's colours, it's untypical magic and such a complex mediaeval-like society. I re-read it regularly because it's one of the best books I know.

7. Tales of the City by Armistead Maupin
Ha, you thought I'm reading only fantasy, didn't you?
If you haven't read these books by Armistead Maupin you should go and buy them. This series (nine books) is the most wonderful and hilarious about a town and a bunch of people, you are going to fall for hard: Michael (Mouse), Brian, Anna, Mary Ann, Mona and their lovers and loved ones. I never laughed so much while reading. I re-read them ever so often and they never fail to lift my mood. Armistead Maupin is a hero of mine because he is not only able to write about love in every form and colour but to point out all the flaws of human nature with a twinkle in his eye. These books are the reason I'll want to visit San Francisco once in my life.

8. Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta
This book. It's so much more than just contemporary romance. It's also not just a young adult book. This book is true perfection. I've never seen two timelines fitting better together than here. There are so many things in this book I love. Even it's harsh heroine, Taylor Markham. You start to read it and you don't have a clue what it's all about until you are one third into Jellicoe Road. Then you start to get a hint and miraculously it all comes together at the end. Jellicoe Road made me laugh, cry, swoon, sigh, google. You won’t believe how easy Melina Marchetta pictures sadness and brightness in the same chapter, sometimes even in the same sentence. It's magic. I only read it once in 2013 but am planning to read it again and again and again...
Btw. Melina Marchetta worte a wonderful fantasy trilogy as well. The Lumatere Chronicles.

9. Dune by Frank Herbert
Yep, I'm into Science Fiction too. And I adore Dune's cooky little hero, Paul Atreides. He ran away from a prophecy, just to get trapped in its claws and become more than one person could ever handle. I loved the whole world building and all the great thoughts about politics, philosophy and religion one could extract from Dune and it's sequels (yes, I read them all). And I loved the clash of cultures and the sandworms. They never fail to amaze me, not even though I've read this book for at least 25th times.

10. Harry Potter by Joanne K Rowling
Surprise, surprise.
They are amazing. The were amazing when I read them for the first time. And all seven books will always be amazing. We could talk about them again. LOL

I lost track who has been tagged already. If you want to do this meme, just do it. You could say, you were tagged by me. :D

Oi, last one. How passed these positivity days so fast? I really think we all should follow [livejournal.com profile] lumosed_quill's idea and keep on going. Each in their own frame. Yes. <333

I haven't felt very well today and being a single parent this weekend wasn't helpful either. But I had help... and here we go:

1. My friend, [livejournal.com profile] candamira, came over with her daughter this morning. We had planned to let the little ones draw with finger paint. Except my little one didn't like that plan. She scooped out the whole paint in about 5 minutes and made a huge gray mess on the brown paper covering the table, her dress and up her arms over the elbows. Urgh. So I picked her up into the bath for a shower/bathing sesson. I love my little daughter, and love her being curious and forceful, but this was JUST too much for me today- and I was sitting next to her in the bathroom, crying tears and feeling sorry for myself. But Canda was there. This darling even cleared the mess in the living room. Thank heaven for me having such a calming and lovely friend. Canda, this one's for you:
hearts_bydragonart

2. This afternoon my mother-in-law came for her grandmother's afternoon and took her for three hours and I could just lay down and read. Amazing. But before I went to that I'd found something very funny on BookLikes. The link goes to the posted source, so go and see some cats looking like male models and ROFL a bit. My favourites are showering- and piano-cat. *giggles helplessly*

3. I want to say thank you to everyone who took the time to do this meme- all the wonderful things one could read, see and learn. And to everyone here who made me feel welcome over the last three and half months. Not a long time, but I've known a lot of you (I should say your fics) from AO3 for quite some time. But now I get to know the people behind the stories/art and you are even more awesome than your words/art. I made some great friends in such a short time and hope to make some more. Sorry, for being such a sappy girl tonight (count it to some cold related madness if you like) but I'm really feeling good here, YK. :D

Not everyone around is healthy at the moment and I joined the club. Boo. It's just a cold but it totally sucks in summer. Well, I think I don't stay so long on tonight. But one can always find some posivite vibes in life, can't we?

1. Got three recs of the same fic in the last 24h, so just took a look and ... read it too. OMG, this thing. So effin HOT. Even if you aren't into this ship (Draco/Albus Severus), you should give it a try. These razor scenes... nngh.
FIC: Unguarded by current anon, (NC-17), Words ~15,300 posted at [livejournal.com profile] dm_asp_fest

2. Mr. Kantorka is away this weekend attending a twitter meeting in Munich. He has some follower (>5k) taking into account he is just tweeting about politics, nonsense and bizarre things happening in his life (in a very humours way though). What I wanted to say. He is in Munich at the moment and we met there thirteen years ago. And he is sending me pics from 'our' places all the time. That is so lovely. And it brought to my mind, that we are having 12th anniversary next week. I would have never guessed that I'm able to stay so long in love with one person. ♥

3. The little one and I made the first pumkin soup (in the new pumkin season) for today's dinner. I love this soup and it's such an easy recipe. Even being only a modest cook can't spoil it. :D

First of all. I'm really, really trying to visit everyone doing this thing and leaving comments because it is such a wonderful meme. But every time I'm nearly down to ten messages the numbers are rising again. Nevertheless I keep trying. :D
And I love all the things I read and learn about you! You guys rock :D

1. Met my darling friend [livejournal.com profile] candamira this morning for breakfast and a chat about fics. She helped me sorting out a problem in my translation project and now that scene is much better. Thank you, bebé! And yay, for meeting twice today after such a long time without seeing each other (nearly a week IS a long time, isn't it?)

2. I had an appointment around eleven a.m. and went there by bicycle (in our city you can reach nearly everything that way). I chose a special route for pedestrians and bicycles only and no one was around. So I rode through the sunlight, and listened to some music, and enjoyed the nature around, and the mountains in the distance... it was a perfect moment. You know, the rare ones, when you are square with all the world and yourself and just be.

3. I'm struggeling at the moment with my current fic. IDK why because I love the idea and the person I'm writing for and everything. I'm just at the beginning but the whole thing is bothering me. There might be some light though... Today I wrote my third scene and liked it right from the start. That didn't happen with the last two, and I hope to get into some sort of flow now.
