Title: Not yet - but soon...
Author: [livejournal.com profile] my_thestral
Pairing(s) Scorpius Malfoy/Hugo Weasley
Rating: NR-17
Word Count: 11,942
Content/Warnings: none
Summary: Scorpius Malfoy has got the most rotten luck ever - that, along with a crush on his very het best friend, a father eloping with the wizarding prodigy, and a barking mad Weasley in his bedroom. Go figure.

Why I loved it: She did it again. After The Butterfly Effect, [livejournal.com profile] my_thestral, wrote another hilariously funny and utterly charming character whose rambling I could have followed a lot longer than 'just' for 11k. This time we can take a look into the brain of one incredible, talented Scorpius Malfoy who has a terrible crush on his straigth best friend Al. But his and Al's fathers needed to out their undying love for each other on a Ministry event, and now Scorpius life has just gone to hell. How the fuck should Scorpius be able to think brotherly of Al from now on? And why has 16-year-old Hugo sneeked into his dorm which should only let 7 years in? Could his life got even worse? Just take a look for yourself and go and read this gem of a story! If you don't laugh your arse of, don't 'oh and ah' over some parts and squee with joy over the ending, blame me. Now, read the excerpt and...don't you want more?

Excerpt:
I might look like my father, alright? - but I don’t have his Slytherin heart and I don’t have his self-restraint and this whole cynical dignity thing I have going for me is just a fucking mask and I’m this fucking... stupid Gryffindor underneath! The first one in a thousand years of the Malfoys, as my grandfather never fails to mention with pale, pursed lips; a terribly wretched, forever hopeful Gryffindor, who wears his heart on his sleeve and cares so little about the family feuds that he managed to fall in love with the son of his father’s adversary... who isn’t his adversary at all, as it comes out – but whatever he is now is so much worse, because I still can’t have my Al, yeah, because my Al is so bloody not interested in boys and not so very mine after all and... I HATE MY FUCKING LIFE, ALRIGHT?!

Title: The Next Twenty-Four Hours
Author/Artist: [livejournal.com profile] saras_girl
Pairing(s) Harry/Draco
Rating: R
Word Count: 3376
Warnings: Character Death
Summary: In twenty-four hours, the Ministry will take your life. Until then, I’m all yours.

Why I loved it: What can I say? I adore every word and every story of Sara’s Girl and this fic is no exception- even though it’s not funny or sweet or fluffy. Harry bares his soul to the reader about losing Draco in twenty-four hours. And it’s horrible to see them both suffering through and clinging to every minute. It is heaven and hell in one story: hard, touching, rough, cruel and beautiful. Yes, I love it. And I re-read every once in a while. That’s my way of reminding me to not take everything – love, happiness, even life – for granted.

Title: The Kiss
Author/Artist: [livejournal.com profile] frayach
Pairing(s) Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy
Rating: R
Word Count: 5175
Warnings: Angst, Dementors, Dark
Summary: Draco’s trial is over, and Harry remember almost everything.

Why I loved it: This story was recced in a comment not only by [livejournal.com profile] firethesound but [livejournal.com profile] iwao too. And of course I needed to read it, even if it’s not a fic for the faint of heart. It is one of those were you start to think about Albus Dumbledore’s sentence “After all, to the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure.” And death can not only be an adventure but a more human solution at all.

I thought a lot about this fic. About ethical questions like death penalty, assisted suicide and the main questions: Is a life without a soul worth to be called living? If not, wouldn’t be death a blessing? Can a life based on a lie (or a lost memory) be a happy life? As it was to be expected I came to no conclusion.
But I know I wouldn’t have taken Harry’s path. To see his chosen fate was even worse than Draco as an empty vessel. I have no clue what I would have chosen being his place. There are many options but aren’t they all bad? Suicide? A kiss for myself? Becoming a Dark Lord? Leaving the magical world forever? I’m sure I would have tried to take revenge. One way or another? And even though I know it wouldn’t bring Draco’s soul back, I couldn’t have lived like that. Not one minute.

Title: Cursed
Author: [livejournal.com profile] iwao
Pairing: Harry/Draco
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 6660
Content/Notes: Plot What Plot/Porn Without Plot, Mildly Dubious Consent, Masturbation, Dry Orgasm, Prostate Massage, Really Porny Porn, What Was I Thinking? I Can't Believe I Wrote This, Voyeurism

Why I loved it: My dear author, I know you think you can't write. Sorry, but WTF? This story is so much fun. Cursed!Draco and his Auror partner!Harry are very creative in dealing with this hot curse. I would love to read more by this talented and beloved author, but they are busy at the moment. My advise: re-read Cursed a few times. It's even better when you know what to expect next. :D

Title: Too Many Potters
Author: [livejournal.com profile] dysonrules
Pairing: Harry/Draco
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 7722
Content/Notes: Humour, Polyjuice Portion, AU
Summary: The Weasley Twins throw a party to celebrate the creation of a new potion. Harry is unpleasantly surprised at the results. At least at first.

Why I loved it: Just imagine Fred and George giving the first Annual Weasley Twins Polyjuice Party. Harry has saved a hair from Draco and is finally using it at this party. There he is thrown out of his good mood because a dozen Harry Potters are walking around (Fred and George have sold his hair *lol*). After being pissed off - which fits his Malfoy-esque attitude very well - he finally meets one who looks stylish and sexy as hell. Guess who's that...
I love this fic. To see Harry as Malfoy lusting after himself and vice versa. It's awesome. Everything else the author has written is worth a closer look too. Though I'm sure you all know that!
ETA June/2015: I just re-read it last week and it was as good as always.

Title: Enemy of My Enemy
Author/Artist: [livejournal.com profile] penwyn
Pairing(s) Harry/Draco
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 8019
Warnings: Character Deaths, Eating disorder

Summary: Unable to cope with the hardships of war, Draco Malfoy elects to starve himself to death. Starving yourself isn't that easy, however, when you suddenly find something to live for.

Why I loved it: This story has the best and saddest last sentence I’ve ever read. And yes, its deaths here- so be prepared. Enemy of My Enemy has a Draco with a great voice. He is so in character but changes, not much, but enough for Harry to fall for him, and that is beautifully to see. It is a tough read and I’m never sure whose end is more terrible. But every time I re-read this story, I’m in awe.

Title:The Charm Conundrum
Author/Artist: [livejournal.com profile] dysonrules
Pairing(s) Harry/Draco
Rating: R
Word Count: 8330
Tags: Humour
Summary: Well, as there is no summary I try to give you one. In 8th year Draco finds a book Harry has lost in the Hogwarts library Twelve Fail-safe Ways to Charm Witches. In canon Harry never seemed to have looked into Ron’s birthday present. Here he has. And he has scribbled some thoughts of his own into it. Harry’s not amused about its loss and Draco can’t believe his luck. And it really was his lucky day…

Why I loved it: A story by dysonrules is always a good read. This is one of my favourites by her. I love the excerpts of the book, Harry’s notes and Draco’s slow way of recognising the truth. It’s funny and charming and just wonderful. And it all ends with greenhouse sex– I mean seriously what’s hotter in an 8th year’s fic than that?

Title: Phoenix
Author: [livejournal.com profile] kedavranox
Pairing: Harry/Draco
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 9278
Content/Notes: Group Sex,Gangbang, PWP, Secret Identity, Rimming, Anal Sex, Blow Jobs, slut!harry, Cock Slapping, Hair-pulling, Bathroom Sex, Sex Club, Oral Sex, Voyeurism, Face-Fucking, Dirty Talk, Secret Crush, Spanking, Come Swallowing, Come Shot
Summary: Harry’s got a fantasy.

Why I loved it: In this story only Harry takes Polyjuice. It's a special formula which changes his face and voice but not his body. With blue eyes, brown hair and no scar he enters a gang bang organized by Blaise Zabini. The other attendees are Draco Malfoy, Theodore Nott and Seamus Finnigan. Yes, this fic is very hot but it's also funny and in the end it turns into something sweet. Harry is an extrovert when it comes to his sex life but is totally shy crushing on Draco.

Title: Founder's Ball
Author: [livejournal.com profile] rickey_a
Pairing: Harry/Draco
Rating: R
Word Count: 9907
Content/Notes: rebuild Hogwarts, Drama, Feel-good, smidge of femmeslash, Angst, Comfort
Summary: Hogwarts has four houses and one representative from each is required for the rededication ceremony.

Why I loved it: Founder's Ball is one of my all time favourite fics. I love the atmosphere, the open-mindedness of Harry, Luna and even Susan, the description of the garb, the whole ceremony and the idea of the rededication. Maybe you know Rickey's And an Owl Named Romeo better or one of her Harry/Ron stories? They are all worth a look, but Founder's Ball is special for me because it makes me comfortable. Whenever I'm in a bad mood and need something short but festive I'm reading this story and it never fails to make me smile.

Title: Let Me See You Stripped (Down to the Bone)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] traintracks
Pairing: Harry/Draco
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 24,455
Content/Notes: Exhibitionism, Public Sex, LeatherTrousers!Draco, Stripping, top!draco, bottom!Harry

Why I loved it: This fic. OMG. I just can't stop reading it. It's one of my all time favourites. And every time Draco and Harry are dancing, and stripping, and having hot public sex and trying to get into each others hearts, I'm hearing David Gahan's voice in my mind like the perfect background music. I love the whole naughty atmosphere and the sweetness of the boys when they are circling each other. It's told from Harry's pov but one can see that Draco is as smitten as his counterpart. If you haven't read it yet, go and have a look. I love the author's style and think they know it by now. :p

Title: Scurrilous
Author/Artist: current anon at [livejournal.com profile] hd_smoochfest 2015
Pairing(s) Harry/Draco
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 25,142
Warnings: A certain amount of ragging on the gutter press. Terrible song titles. Pansy Parkinson.
Epilogue compliant? Nope, not even a little bit.

Summary: When Potter starts behaving more oddly than usual, Draco has no choice but to take an interest. After all, it’s his job. Sort of.

Why I loved it: Warning. This might be a bit spoilerish!
The story was funny and made me very happy- as in smiling like a beacon happy! Just imagine Draco and Pansy as broadcasters- frank and witty and them taking care of each other with much banter. Wonderful! And Harry with his strange behaviour, the changing hair colours, the orange dress, him taking care of all the anmimals so tenderly and Brenda on the leash. But the best thing- the details. So many great details; The Eye in the Sky, the coffee vendetta (*cackles*), the omnivoxes (or would it be declined to the latin plural omnivoces?), handsome Derek, and all the great nah, not terrible song titles. Seriously, I would love to hear some of those songs.

Title:Draco Malfoy: Toilet Supremo
Author/Artist: [livejournal.com profile] who_la_hoop at [livejournal.com profile] hd_fan_fair 2014
Pairing(s) Harry/Draco
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 26,189
Tags: Romance, Humour, flangst, HP: EWE, Career: toilet salesman
Summary: It must be a vision brought on by eating cheese sarnies too close to bedtime, Harry thinks. There's no way that Draco Malfoy can really be standing on his doorstep, calling himself a Toilet Supremo, and expecting Harry to buy not only this unlikeliest of scenarios, but also a new loo.
But no: Harry's eyes do not deceive him. Malfoy, Lord of Toilets, is really there. Which begs a very important question: what the hell is he up to, and what evil scheme is he about to unleash? Because there must be an evil scheme … mustn't there?

Why I loved it: This story will make you laugh till you cry. It’s so hilariously funny that you shouldn’t read it with a full bladder. You might wet your pants. So be warned and stay near a toilet. ;p
I did all of it: I laughed out loud, I cried tears of laughter and I sprinted to the toilet because otherwise... you get it.
I’m not so fond of this ‘we don’t talk which each other and hurt out of misunderstanding’ which is a part of this fic. But it didn’t matter because it was so wonderful humorous. If you haven’t read it by now, you should go and take a look. It will absorb you in no time.

Title:In the Company of a Rubber Duck
Author/Artist: [livejournal.com profile] birdsofshore
Pairing(s) Harry/Draco
Rating: NR-17
Word Count: 34,699
Tags: Post-War, Quidditch, Getting Together Humour, Rubber Ducks, Bath Sex, Snape Lives, Smut, First Time
Summary: War makes for strange bedfellows. However that doesn't fully explain how Harry ended up sharing his bath with Draco Malfoy... nor why Malfoy was a rubber duck at the time.

Why I loved it: This fic has some of the most hilarious scenes I’ve ever read. There are the ones when Draco attends Harry bathing as a Rubber Duck, or he visits when Harry tries to get sloshed or when he gives him nearly a heart attack as his... nope, no spoilers sorry. :D
And of course there is the scene in the cinema. Just think about it, Draco Malfoy, who has never been to a cinema before, watching a Muggle film. Best thing ever.
Birds has done a wonderful job with this story, and I love to re-read it whenever I’m in the mood for something hilarious.

Title: Stop All the Clocks (This is the Last Time I’m Leaving Without You)
Author/Artist: [livejournal.com profile] firethesound
Pairing(s) Harry/Draco, Hermione/Ron, Harry/OMC
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 44,706
Warnings: Death, Character Death, Grief/Mourning, Angst and Humour, Auror Partners, Rimming, Drunk Sex, Moving On, Bottom!Harry, Top!Draco, Switching

Summary: Living with Draco was difficult; living without him is unbearable. But if there’s one thing Harry learned from the war, it’s that even when one life ends, the rest of the world goes right on living.

Why I loved it: This fic. It was terribly hard to read, this fic. Even for me who can enjoy even the hard and dark topics as long there is love woven in between. And it is. There is so much love in Stop All the Clocks...it nearly lets you drown. Because it makes Harry’s loss so much bigger and nearly unbearable for the reader too.
The two timelines in which firethesound told the story were an idea of pure genius. In one we meet Harry and Draco being drunk on one of these official Ministry parties, both are annoyed and angry and just fuck each other. That’s where their relationship starts. The other timeline starts with Darco already being dead. Yes, he is dead. And nothing will change this. Harry is nearly losing his mind over this loss. And when their relationship starts to grow, Harry is dealing with the different stages of grieving. When they become a happy couple, he tries to leave England and all his memories behind. When their Auror work becomes more and more dangerous, Harry comes back and gets obsessed over a ghostly copy of Draco’s last memories and – inevitably – Draco is going to die and Harry – after years of mourning – finally starts to heal.

You know, just thinking about it and my eyes get teary again. Yes, that’s what makes this story so wonderful. It makes you feel it all: the good and the bad, the love and the loss, the lively characters and the death or emotional shutdown. You might cry reading this story but it will touch you for real.

Title: Another Mask Behind You
Author/Artist: [livejournal.com profile] lettered at [livejournal.com profile] hd_erised 2014
Pairing(s) Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 116,557
Warnings/Tags: dubcon, almost all of this is dubcon depending on your definition, non-con, the non-con isn’t super graphic but it does get quite uncomfortable, Suicidal Ideation, past suicide of a minor character, past death of another minor character, D/s elements, D/s elements but the dynamic shifts back and forth, BDSM, BDSM but it’s not formalized, threat of whipping, Dishonesty, Prostitution, Switching, Mentions of past abuse, Alcoholism, Smoking, Homophobic Slurs, negative attitude towards sex work, Pet Names, lots of pet names, Snowballing, hate!sex, Rimming, Felching, the felching isn’t graphic but the rimming is, infidelity but it depends on your definition, not infidelity in an explicitly committed relationship, Exhibitionism, Semi-Public Sex, Long Hair, Dubious Consent

Summary: Draco is a high-end prostitute who hides his identity. Harry unknowingly hires him. And then there is porn, questions about identity, domestic bliss, more porn, and truth as seen through a web of lies. (And then more porn. Seriously, if you don’t want sex scene after sex scene you probably shouldn’t read this. And please read the warnings.)

Why I loved it: This is a helluva story. The author said, one should read the tags because all the things are really happening here. Draco is a rent boy. He's spreading his legs for everyone who is able to afford him (he's worked like hell to be a high class rent boy) and he's pretty good at this job. And he hates it. Because he didn't choose this work but for ~reasons. And he hates Harry. Jupp, and of course he loves him as well.
But he doesn't know that when this fic starts. And he is such an arse at the beginning. And the author did this in such a brilliant way. I mean - seriously, who would ever call Harry's eyes 'little pig's eyes' if not a really pissed Draco. It was so much fun to see him rant and defame Harry in his thoughts when his actions spoke a whole other language. And his denial was so heavy that he didn't know who the real 'Draco' was over time.
Yeah, this fic is heavy stuff, but it's streaked with the hottest sex scenes ever. And the end was so cool. As in super-fucking-cool. Yes, it could have been longer, but, hey, I'm not really complaining after nearly 120k, or maybe just a little bit, but only because I couldn't get enough of these two. It was an awesome story! And the author has a wonderful and raw way with words. And after leaving kudos and comments, IDK, I could build a shrine together with this_bloody_cat. Yeah, I'm in awe and my fangirl mode took over and wrote this...

Title: Eclipse
Author/Artist: [livejournal.com profile] mijan
Pairing(s) Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 287,239
Warnings: Dark Magic, Slash, Male Bonding, Plotty, Slow Build, Adventure, Hogwarts Sixth Year
Summary: "You're dead, Potter... I'm going to make you pay..."

Draco swore his revenge on Harry for Lucius's imprisonment, and Harry all but laughed at him. But Draco is planning more than schoolyard pranks this time. The old rivalry turns deadly when Draco abducts Harry for Voldemort. It's the perfect plan, guaranteeing revenge, power, and prestige, all in one blow. But when Draco's world turns upside down, the fight to save himself and Harry begins, and the battle will take them both through hell and back. If they come back.

Notes: This story was written before the publication of Half-Blood Prince. It’s an old story (from 2003). So... let's go back a few years, and imagine that the last bit of canon that we know is Order of the Phoenix.

Why I loved it: Well, this is not just a fic but a whole book. It’s as epic as one of JKR’s books and as complex are its ideas. I don’t want to spoil too much, but going this long way with Harry and Draco (from enemies to reluctant partners to friends and lovers in a chaste way) was just amazing. I didn’t miss a thing. I even got a lot of the feelings, I had during Deathly Hollows, because there are other mind boggling revelations in Eclipse and some slightly too long camping sequences (when I recognised that, I really had a good laugh) which alternate with the most fascinating scenes.
It’s long, it’s dark, it’s not explicit at all, but it’s worth every minute of reading.

One advice in case you are going to read it. Don’t look for the sequel! The author didn’t finish it and deleted all chapters except the first one. So, don’t read it. Yes, you will be tempted, but remember, it’s unfinished and trust me, just don’t...!

Today I've stumbled over a little article in a consumer publication which you can get for free in all pharmacies here. The article's title was something like this 'Less Prejudice due to Harry' and it mentioned a scientific publication from the Journal of Applied Social Psychology.

Summary of the findings (Vezzali et al. 2014. DOI: 10.1111/jasp.12279):
Three different studies (with 5th graders, high school students and undergraduates) showed that reading Harry Potter can help to reduce prejudies against so called 'out-groups' like immigrants, homosexuals, and refugees. Each age group read the books (or parts of them) and was asked about one of the discreminated groups by questionnaire(s):
- 5th graders about immigrants (in Italy)
- high school students about homosexuals (in Italy)
- and undergraduate students about refugees (in United Kingdom).
They took a lot of other date to delimitate bias and other influences (for example how much tv the participants had watched or how many books they'd read per year).
The more the participants could relate to Harry (and the less to Voldemort) the more their attitude towards out-groups improved.

It's an open access article so if you want to have a look, here it is: The Greatest Magic of Harry Potter: Reducing Prejudice

Though the publication is written (like all scientific publications) in true gobbledygook, it's made me happy. It's no surprise to find open-minded people in fandom, but that the books can measurably lessen discrimination, yeah, that's good news.
