Title: Scurrilous
Author/Artist: current anon at [livejournal.com profile] hd_smoochfest 2015
Fandom: Harry Potter
Pairing(s) Harry/Draco
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 25,142
Warnings: A certain amount of ragging on the gutter press. Terrible song titles. Pansy Parkinson.
Epilogue compliant? Nope, not even a little bit.

Summary: When Potter starts behaving more oddly than usual, Draco has no choice but to take an interest. After all, it’s his job. Sort of.

Why I loved it: Warning. This might be a bit spoilerish!
The story was funny and made me very happy- as in smiling like a beacon happy! Just imagine Draco and Pansy as broadcasters- frank and witty and them taking care of each other with much banter. Wonderful! And Harry with his strange behaviour, the changing hair colours, the orange dress, him taking care of all the anmimals so tenderly and Brenda on the leash. But the best thing- the details. So many great details; The Eye in the Sky, the coffee vendetta (*cackles*), the omnivoxes (or would it be declined to the latin plural omnivoces?), handsome Derek, and all the great nah, not terrible song titles. Seriously, I would love to hear some of those songs.

Excerpt:
“Draco,” she’ll declare, curling into his side with her stiletto heels tucked up onto yet another velvet banquette, “you’ll never find anyone to fuck if you sit there looking like you’ve forgotten which drawer you keep your balls in.”

“Bugger off. I’m here, aren’t I?”

“I suppose,” Pansy will say grandly, as she always does. “I suppose I should be grateful that you deigned to join me when you could be at home shagging your ducks.”

Draco thinks she should have the sense to leave his ducks out of it, but then Pansy has never been the most sensible of creatures. There is something about his nicely-maintained pond and its raft of black and white Muscovies that she finds inexplicably hilarious, but it’s only when she’s consumed several glasses of champagne that she likes to bring sex into the equation.

“What is it about my ducks?” he asks as they leave the studio together on Friday afternoon.

Pansy lets out a snort of amusement. “I don’t know... I suppose it’s just that there’s something very odd about a man who keeps ducks. It’s not very sexy, is it?”

“I’m not trying to be sexy,” Draco says, puzzled. “We’ve always had ducks.”

Pansy sighs and kisses his cheek, leaving behind the slightly waxy sensation of her lipstick.

“I’m sure there’s a man out there for you somewhere, darling. Goodnight.”

Summary: When a gang of criminals come after an elderly Holmes and Watson in search of revenge, Holmes takes an unusual step to protect Watson.

Why I loved it: Such a lovely story. To see those two old men dealing with some very dumb but much younger and faster criminals was great. The story is told in retrospective and that's too lovely. Yes, there was an adventure which included ladder climbing and keeping a bee-queen safe in the middle of the night, but the real treat was the way Watson told his story. He rambles on about their lives, gets aware of it and pulls himself together just to slip on another side-track a few paragraphs later. Those parts were the most charming ever.
The author has such a wonderful imagination. It's even more distinct in their Skeleton series. I'm currently waiting for the 3rd part to be finished. Soon... :D

Excerpt:
Holmes did not let me return to sleep. “Watson, there are several men attempting to break in through the living room window,” he said, speaking in a half-tone.

“Well, one of them may oblige you then,” I said, before my brain woke up enough to fully process the words. I turned towards him. “Holmes, are you serious?”

“I can hear them,” he said. “Get up and put your dressing gown and your shoes on. I am going to investigate.”

He slid out of the bed and disappeared noiselessly from the room. I struggled to sit up, straining my ears for whatever had woken him, without success.

Holmes's senses had always been far more acute than mine and as age had crept in that had only become more true. My left ear in particular had become increasingly muffled over the last few years. Holmes had acquired the habit of staying to the right side of me, even when I was still stoutly denying that there was anything wrong with me and instead claiming that everyone else had inexplicably started to speak more quietly.

Combined with the increased stiffness in my leg, it made me feel very old, particularly as Holmes had managed to age without any significant loss of his senses. I consoled myself with the truth that my hair had remained thick, whereas his hairline had retreated steadily, year by year, until there was little more than a narrow band of it surrounding the dome of his head.

I have gone off-track again. Where was I? Ah, yes, getting dressed.
