SED 14 - I need to ask something too

Today I've seen people from my f-list asking questions about words and their use and thought, that's cool. Because I wanted to ask something for a while but always forgot about it.

It's about one line from the lyrics of Polaroid by Imagine Dragons.

What it the meaning of I'm a day late two face?

I can think about a few things for two face; the Roman God of two faces Janus, the comic figure two-faces from Gotham City or someone being that way - showing two different faces to the world. But all of it doesn't fit with day late (at least not for me).

So, if someone knows what they are talking about, please share your knowledge.

You can call someone "two-faced" if they are a hypocrite or otherwise say one thing and do another. So the singer is calling himself "two face" which is probably just a poetic way of saying "two-faced".

That's my read, anyway :)

"Two-faced" is a pretty harsh criticism - here's the Google dictionary definition:
"two-faced: adjective
insincere and deceitful.
synonyms: deceitful, insincere, double-dealing, Janus-faced, hypocritical, backstabbing, false, fickle, untrustworthy, duplicitous, deceiving, dissembling, dishonest"

I don;t know the song but that seems to go with the rest of the lyrics.

ETA a day late may be from the idiom "A day late and a dollar short" which I found defined online as "late and ill-prepared"

At least I was not totally wrong about the two-faced part.

And yes, it goes with the rest of the song. Whatever flaws that person has self-critism isn't an issue. ;p
