nia_kantorka: (I love Hugo)

I wrote my frist threesome for hp_nextgen_fest

So, 2016's [livejournal.com profile] hp_nextgen_fest reveals have gone up and it's time to claim the naughty little fic I wrote. It was tough to write two fics at a time and I might have showered the other story with more attention (my FrostIronBang fic In Dreams We Share in case someone was wondering).
But I had such great fun writing a pwp story around a naughty Hugo, my first threesome no less. It was so delightful to let Hugo lust after Harry, and then after Draco too, and when he finally managed to get them both ... Man, he was a lucky and very debauched ginger boy in the end. LOL

Well, I can't refrain to point out that I'm a bit disappointed about the feedback most of the next gen fics got. Grace, our fabulous mod, and lots of other people promoted the fest and yet, the rare pairings didn't get much attention. Yes, I get that most people love Albus/Scorpius and Teddy/James the most, but you miss out if you're not even willing to read other things too. My rec post will go up in the next few days and I won't rec the fest's favourites. Not only because they've been recced a lot already, but because my heart is still bleeding for some wonderful stories that nearly nobody has read.

Seriously, I can't complain. Chosing a threesome and 2nd ppov at the same time, yes I knew it wouldn't be a biggie. You won't get many readers with such a combination, and look at the brilliant feedback I got. *hearts everybody*
Yet it was funny to see how my other story skyrocketed on ao3 compared to the nextgen fic. In a fandom I've haven't written before it got more than tenfold of attention in half the time. And Tony and Loki aren't the most beloved pairing of MCU fandom either. Maybe there are too many fests but a lot less people in hp fandom atm? Well, I'm a loss here. But I'll stop my rambling and go and write my rec post now.

Author's notes:
Big thanks to [livejournal.com profile] candamira and [livejournal.com profile] digthewriter for being the fastest alpha and beta readers one can wish for! [livejournal.com profile] gracerene, you are patient, kind, and always willing to help. No clue what fandom (and I) would do without you. Thanks for hosting this fest again! May all the next gen characters gather much love. [livejournal.com profile] themightyflynn, I hope you’ll enjoy what I did with your prompt.

Well done on trying something new with the threesome!

To tell the truth, commenting is down on everything. ooking at nextgen's archive page for the month most of the fics seem to have done okay. I commented on some art and the chess gen fic. The het and gen fared worst of all I think, I greatly regret not pulling myself together and writing something for it. I do like my next gen het.

This one was great - I mean, it had a naughty Hugo in it, how could it not have been! *sheepish grin* - and I was kind of cheering happily when I saw the Harry/Hugo pairing, that one stole my heart. :)

I'm so sorry that you were disappointed over the attention of the fest, but I guess none of the next-gen slash pairings are really big in a way that Drarry is. As it is, lots of people want to sort of replay Harry/Draco (as if giving the Potter/Malfoy pairing another chance) so Al/Scorpius or James/Scorpius is naturally popular. And then there's Teddy of whom we know really interesting things - he's a metamorphmagus, Harry has lots of interest in his upbringing - I guess it makes sense for many people to want to bring him into the family properly by pairing them with one of the Potters. I suppose everyone else - with an exception of Rose, perhaps - is just not prominent enough in the epilogue to really sound interesting. But - that's where you (and occasionally I) come in, ha! ;) Not only does writing Hugo provide for the much necessary variety, it also takes imagination and a bit of balls writing him, because he's a wild card, an unpredictable choice (no one's first choice, really, when everyone else is so much more defined and interesting), tabula rasa, and there's just so much room to make him and his choice of a partner into whomever you want to! You took the challenge, and I'm so glad you did! Perhaps you were not awarded with as many kudos as you would have been if you picked a more popular pairing, or even fandom, but that doesn't make your story any less great and your bold choice of character any less admirable.

Personally, I never wrote for the fandom and with the pairing that would have a big response, so I have nothing to compare it to but because you do, I can understand it feels frustrating. I don't really mind the numbers - I'd probably jump off the roof if I started comparing my kudos and comments to someone who writes Drarry well - but my perspective is that I'm enjoying the process and if I can impress two people to enjoy it with me, I'm happy with that. I think in many ways the kudos and comments are also down to the popularity of fandom or pairing, rather than your writing skill. I've heard people in this fandom say that they like Harry/Draco so much, they don't ever want to "see" one of them with someone else, and frankly, I found that kind of close-mindedness a bit disheartening. I don't resent anyone when they don't like my story or pairings, but why would you want to close your mind to a point that you would never read anything else? You could be missing out on such great stories - I know that from experience, because I read your stories and Canda's and they almost never have my choice of pairings, but I still find myself flailing over them! :) I think if you write a rare pairing, you sort of have to forget the idea that you'll be "rewarded" for your choice/story the way your wonderful writing deserves to - you do it, because your pairing and your story idea deserves to be written and because you're definitely good enough to make it attractive to anyone with open enough mind to give your storytelling skill a chance! I hope you write many more! :)

I know this wasn't directed at me and I apologize to [livejournal.com profile] nia_kantorka for butting in but thank you for this comment. As someone who is a dedicated rare pair shipper who's been feeling down at heart, I needed to read this, this morning.

You are most welcome. I think once you sort it out in your mind, that you'd rather follow your heart and stick to what you love than have a gazillion followers and admirers, it feels pretty nice to know that you're true to yourself. Popularity is overrated anyway, LOL. We're the fandom rebels, yey! :D

I have great appreciation and admiration for your ability to follow and create in so many fandoms. I'm not quite so versatile - if at all, LOL - but that doesn't mean that I can't find it adorable when it's part of your fandom existence. You're like a little Niffler from Fantastic beasts (and he's adorable) -you see another shiny new pairing or fandom, and off you go, LOL! :) It's a quality of yours that I really think the world of: you're never stuck in just one world, but adventurous enough to always go and explore others. I'm with you about leaving people's comfort zones behind - I think in my case that would mean I'd have to write a Drarry, gulp! - I think if people could appreciate diversity more they would surprise themselves about the things they were able to love. :)
You should be our guiding light in those efforts with your example! :)
