SED 24 - I'm strolling through fandoms at the moment

Thanks for all the well wishes for our little one! She has still fever- thankfully under 39°C (no medication necessary) but isn't nauseous anymore. So, I'm mostly online via mobile and not really writing things or commenting properly because it's just a nuisance on the phone.

But I had some lovely reading time while we lay on the sofa or bed together (and she grabbing my hand like a limpet) these last days. And man, I've had some luck with the chosen fics recently:

- It all started with the wonderful Sherlock fic 'The Edinburgh Problem' by snorklepie (rec is here, 2nd last)

- Then I read this great story on hp_mhealthfest 'The Butterfly Effect' by current anon. Seriously, go and take a look at that adorable Ron and how he is going to help a cursed Draco.

- Oh, then came 'The Gilded Cage' by BeautifulFiction. Yes, this is me reccing another Alpha/Omega fic. It's such a complex story with a rogue society, some great ideas on Alpha/Beta/Omega biology, a very intruiging case - at least for me as a scientist - which maybe distracts a bit from the MC's relationship at first but becomes so much more over time. So, watch it while reading! :D
I gutted this 327k fic in 3,5 days and am still in awe about it (need to write a proper rec soon).

- And one more. Inception this time. Or an Inception/Nothing Hill fusion to be more precise. 'I Seem to Be a Verb' by Aja (Bookshop on tumblr). You see. There's Arthur with his Nothing Hill bookstore and one day Eames (the big actor) shows up and grabs a book Arthur never wanted to sell. And I learned some things about architecture, three-word-book-titles, Buckminster Fuller and movies I've never heard of. This fic was 93k of gold.

I'm reading a Merlin football AU at the moment told from Arthur's pov- 'There are no Gays in Football' by Malu_3. It's so cool to read finally about a sport I know a lot about. And yes, I can feel the heartbreak looming (it's 210k long and I'm just 18% in).

Well, it's still some days until Smoochfest and Holmestice start posting...

It was a wonderful story! And Ron was such a great person. Reveals go up on Monday, right? That's not so long anymore. :)

Sadly not. I read about its storyline and characters, some reviews, and talked about it with some LJ friends. But I'm pants at watching tv series. And as it's quite expensive (it would be a reimport here) I haven't ordered it. I'm still tempted because I read a few wonderful fics from that fandom. And the one by Tevere shows the same gruesome things about war in a different setting (East Timor instead of Iraq). It's such great story and not as well know as it deserves to be (imo).
Have you seen the series?

I've seen it many times, it's really good. It's only 7 episodes so it's not long but truly intense. Just like the other two HBO war series: Band of Brothers and The Pacific.
Like you I discovered the series following a fic rec, I got intrigued, so I downloaded it. Later my mom bought me the dvd box set as a gift. Couldn't you download the episodes?

That fic by Tevere is amazing, it's more than just a gk fic. The fandom is full of Brad/Nate, but if you wanted to read some Ray/Walt, which I love, I made a small rec list a few years ago. :)

I'll check out your rec list and will think some more about buying gk. Maybe I'll find the episodes to download, but need to take a look first (God, all the things I want to do...).

Sorry to hear that the little one is still sick, but glad it's not serious enough to need medication. Still, it can be hard to see someone you love be sick and just have to wait it out. Sending good vibes to both of you!

It's not easy to see her (or a beloved person) lying pale in bed, far from her usual bubbly and curious self. But when it's 'only' a cold or stomach bug one has to be patient and it'll get better. Fever meds for kids can be tricky- it works like doping when the fever gets down. And it sucks trying to stop a child from doing all the things because it suddenly feels normal.

Yeah, posting starts on Monday. :D

TGC. Oh yes. A/O isn't my favourite trope, but I've still read some fics. Idkw, but they work better for me in Sherlock fandom than HP. Probably because Sherlock as an Omega is kind of a contradiction (his character is so not devot or pliable) and I love authors who are able to sell me such a story without any inconsistencies. And BF is a master in doing so.
And yes, they are both so wonderful characters here. ♥

O, damn, poor little darling, I hope she recovers to her vivacious self soon enough. I sometimes wish my boys were calmer and a bit more behaved, but when they're ill I find myself missing all the Armageddon they cause, because they're so unnaturally calm. But because I have two and they take turns in being ill, it's never quite *that* peaceful, perhaps just less biblical than usually.:)
Hugs to you two and lots of courage to your mother in law to deal with a clingy child.
